I find the mental models I learned as a developer invaluable in my work. As a PM in collaboration with engineers, we can round on plausible solutions much faster than we would without having that common ground. As a designer, I intrinsically design in ways that make responsiveness and scalability baked into my work. Plus, I can jump in and build my designs in code if needed.
If you can't measure value, it is hard to justify that it exists.
...I'm not quite that bleak about the success of projects, but I'm no fan of spinning wheels or missing deadlines. User feedback and data are great tools to combat getting lost in thought experiments and hunches. Launch, test, iterate 🚀
There are few days as humbling and enlightening as user testing day. Great design and great products come from researching and interacting with folks.
